In order to survive our new lifestyle in the community, the tips below came in handy for us;
1.Take time to understand your surrounding
1. We found it valuable to take time to understand our surroundings by occasionally taking short walks to familiarize ourselves with what’s around our home. This helped us discover social amenities like shops, schools and churches in our neighborhood.
2.Strike conversations with people
.Villagers are generally friendly and enjoy conversations so we use every opportunity to engage with them, listen and keep the conversation flowing this has helped us to learn more about our new neighbors and our new community.
3.Be friendly and accommodative
We have also learnt to be more respectful and approachable because people’s interactions in the village are often more meaningful and friendly. For instance, a neighbor passing by while I was working in my farm stopped to say hi and shared valuable tips on planting and caring for sweet potatoes. I’ve found these tips incredibly helpful.
4.Take part in activities around the village
Community gatherings are a very important part of the village life so we always purpose to attend meetings, gatherings, funerals, and fundraisers. We have also joined local groups which has helped us in integrating well into community life build meaningful connections and support network.
5.Be open to new ideas
We have embraced the opportunities to learn and contribute to our new community by being part and parcel of the community .We avoid isolating ourselves, intentionally or unintentionally, by fully embracing your new lifestyle as a chance for growth and community bonding.
